Endometriosis Symptoms

Our Austin endometriosis doctors report that as many as 10 percent of women, primarily in their 30s and 40s, experience endometriosis symptoms

Our Austin endometriosis doctors have seen endometriosis in many patients, and they know that every patient is unique. It is not clear why some women get endometriosis, while others are unaffected, but we do know that there are factors that make some women more likely to suffer from this condition, including:

  • Women who have never had children
  • Women with cycles lasting more than one week, or those with cycles lasting less than 27 days
  • Those who have a mother, sister or aunt with endometriosis
  • Women whose menstrual flow is blocked by a physical problem

When they take a thorough medical history at Texas Fertility Center, our Austin endometriosis doctors will obtain this important information and discuss it with you.

While some women with endometriosis don’t experience any symptoms at all, and some women don’t know they have the condition until it’s discovered during another pelvic surgery, for many women, pain is one of the first indications that there is a problem.

Pain is one of the most common endometriosis symptoms

It is estimated that up to 10% of all women of reproductive age have endometriosis.  Dr. Kaylen Silverberg discusses the classic symptoms of endometriosis.

Varying degrees and types of pain often drive patients to see an Austin endometriosis doctor at Texas Fertility Center. Types of pain include:

  • Dysmenorrhea–very painful periods with the pain getting progressively worse
  • Dyspareunia—pain that occurs during or after sexual intercourse
  • Pelvic pain
  • Intestinal pain
  • Pain during bowel movements
  • Painful urination during menstrual periods
  • Lower back pain

Other symptoms include:

  • Spotting and/or bleeding between menstrual periods
  • Digestive problems, especially during menstrual periods, such as nausea, bloating, diarrhea constipation
