Help IVF Patients Better Understand Their Egg Quality

Back to Current Research

Purpose and Background of the Study

Eggs contribute significantly to successful embryo growth. Unlike the sperm, which is mainly a package to deliver the male DNA, the egg contributes DNA as
well as other important components of the cell that will form the embryo.

As you go through IVF treatment, your fertility team can assess the quality of each sperm sample and every embryo to give you the best chance of pregnancy. However, there is no standard method for clinics to assess the quality of your eggs.

Future Fertility has developed a new way to evaluate egg quality through technology that looks at images of each of your eggs to predict if the egg will develop into a healthy
embryo – this tool is called MAGENTA™. Gaining personalized insights about egg quality may help to manage expectations for success and help future patients and their fertility teams make better decisions about IVF treatment.

You can help us by providing permission to take pictures of your eggs in the fertility lab at no increased risk to you or your eggs. Pictures of your eggs cannot be traced back to you.

In return for your permission, you will receive a free report that shares pictures of your eggs!

In addition to validating this technology, this study with Ovation Fertility will also help us to understand if IVF outcomes can be improved by changing the lab process to sort embryos by egg quality in the dishes in which they are grown instead of sorting embryos randomly. Typically, after fertilization, embryologists randomly place eggs into dishes. Our hypothesis (the idea we’re testing) is that higher-quality embryos may thrive better together when they aren’t impacted by lower-quality embryos sharing the same dish. We can use the egg quality scores from our MAGENTA™ analysis to sort growing embryos at the earliest possible stage – the egg.
