Should I Consider Egg Freezing?

Are you single and can no longer ignore the sound of your biological clock ticking louder and louder?

egg freezing in AustinHave you recently decided to further your education or have you accepted a demanding position at work? Is there some other reason why postponing childbearing to sometime in the future is necessary?

If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, egg freezing may be a viable option to further your dreams of having a biological child down the road. Texas Fertility Center can help you determine if egg freezing is right for you.

Consider egg freezing in these situations

There are several personal and medical reasons why women choose to undergo the process of egg freezing, also called oocyte cryopreservation.  You want to have a family, just not right now.

Women are born with all of the eggs they’ll ever have. At birth, the female ovaries contain approximately 6-7 million eggs.  By the time a girl hits puberty, only about 300-500,000 of her lifetime supply of eggs remains. As the years fade, so do the number of remaining eggs. Most women experience a significant decrease in fertility around the age of 35.  Studies show that the earlier you freeze your eggs—preferably before age 34—the better your chances for conceiving and delivering a healthy baby.

Egg freezing is no longer experimental

In 2012, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) removed the label “experimental” that was once attached to oocyte cryopreservation. As a result of technological advancements and the success rate of egg freezing over the last decade, physicians now consider it a viable medical procedure for fertility preservation.

Consider egg freezing a safety net for motherhood

A woman has a finite number of reproductive years. As the saying goes, “Timing is everything.” If you dream of having a child, but the timing isn’t right at this moment (or in the very near future), let egg freezing be your safety net that lets you buy precious time.

Make certain you choose the right fertility practice to freeze your eggs

Most fertility practices will tell you that they can freeze your eggs.  The question to ask them is “How many healthy babies have been born from eggs frozen by your practice?  At Texas Fertility Center, eggs we have frozen have already given birth to over 50 healthy babies – making us one of the largest and most successful egg freezing programs in the country.
