Donor services helps make fertility care for singles possible

Our Austin fertility center offers the latest, proven fertility treatments for single patients. These options include donor services and gestational surrogacy. Here is a breakdown of the different options for fertility care for singles.

Single men will need to rely on in vitro fertilization (IVF) with donor eggs and gestational surrogacy to have a biological child. Our embryologists will use the man’s sperm to fertilize the donor eggs in the IVF laboratory. One of our doctors will then transfer a resulting embryo to the uterus of a gestational surrogate. This woman will carry the pregnancy and deliver the baby.

Single women have two primary options, including intrauterine insemination (IUI) with donor sperm and IVF with donor sperm. IUI with donor sperm involves using a catheter (a thin, flexible tube) to place donor sperm through the vagina and cervix and into the vagina. IVF with donor sperm involves a few more steps, including ovarian stimulation, egg retrieval, laboratory fertilization and an embryo transfer.

As a woman, the results of your fertility testing will help you and your doctor determine whether IUI or IVF is the better option for you. Typically, IVF is the better option if you are over age 35, have irregular cycles, or have conditions like endometriosis or tubal infertility.
