Texas Fertility Center Comes Together for a Cure

Texas Fertility Center shows unprecedented support for women’s health – breast cancer support and awareness

TFC3I have always been impressed by the teamwork at Texas Fertility Center. It’s obvious that the staff has a deep sense of camaraderie. You can see it in their easy communication and their friendly professionalism. They make running the largest IVF clinic in Central Texas look effortless. The team all seems to care about each other, in addition to caring about us as patients. This includes providing breast cancer support.

So it was no surprise when I learned that 62 members of the Texas Fertility Center team participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® this November in Austin, showing collective enthusiasm for the advancement of women’s health.

Strength in numbers for breast cancer support

Texas Fertility Center was able to rally together multiple organizations to sport their “Team TFC” t-shirts and run alongside them at the Susan G. Komen race.

  • Staff members at the Austin and San Antonio offices of Texas Fertility Center, along with Ovation Fertility, San Antonio IVF, Cornerstone OBGyn and Hays Women’s Health turned out in pink on the day of the race.
  • Texas Fertility Center sponsored a team tent at the race and contributed $4,000 towards the cause.
  • The staff at Texas Fertility Center personally raised $825 to fund the mammograms of eight women in need.

Fighting a terrible-but-beatable disease

Dr. Kaylen Silverberg says of participating in the Komen race.

“Participating in Race for the Cure® provides us a mechanism to show our appreciation for all that the Komen Foundation does for our patients, our friends and our fellow Austinites who have been affected by this terrible-but-beatable disease.  We are grateful for the chance to work alongside tireless Komen professionals to bring legitimate hope for future fertility and support to women who are committed to winning the war against breast cancer!”

I wrote about a courageous family member of mine, a Stage III breast cancer survivor who rapidly underwent fertility preservation before beginning chemotherapy at age 31 (read more about Jessica here). Jessica’s story reminds me of the resilience within women; how infertility – or even cancer – can’t rob us of our femininity and all the privileges that come along with it.

Just as Susan G. Komen rallies around breast cancer patients and survivors, always looking for better treatments, giving hope and offering comfort, Texas Fertility Center does the same for those struggling with infertility. When the two organizations come together, well… that makes women UNBEATABLE, indeed.
