How one couple welcomed a beautiful baby boy with IVF after an ectopic pregnancy

Hailey and Miles’ journey brought them to Texas Fertility Center after an ectopic pregnancy. When they realized they would need a little help to conceive, they turned to our Austin fertility clinic. This decision would help them welcome their son Beckett.
The couple is happy to share their story about conceiving with IVF after an ectopic pregnancy. Their goal is to help other hopeful parents welcome their own bundles of joy.
Making the decision to visit Texas Fertility Center
The couple tried to conceive on their own for a year after an ectopic pregnancy. At this time, Hailey learned that a friend had had success by visiting Dr. Kaylen Silverberg at TFC.
Based on her friend’s recommendation, Hailey started researching our Austin fertility clinic. “I’m very much a reviews person, so the online reviews and success stories helped me make my final decision,” Hailey explains.
Taking the first steps on the path to parenthood
It was “daunting” for the couple to come to their first fertility appointment. However, they quickly connected with Dr. Silverberg. “His humor and mine were the same, and he was very empathetic and very knowledgeable. Immediately, I’m like, ‘This is the guy,’” Hailey recalls.
After the couple completed testing, Hailey liked that Dr. Silverberg didn’t immediately push them to in vitro fertilization (IVF). According to her, “Dr. Silverberg was very supportive and let us choose our own adventure.”
Following his advice, the couple tried two cycles of timed intercourse. When those cycles were unsuccessful, Hailey and Miles decided to use their Progyny fertility benefits to pursue IVF.
Moving forward with IVF after an ectopic pregnancy

Because she’s a nurse, Hailey didn’t have any problems with the IVF injections. However, the egg retrievals proved to be more challenging, “not physically but emotionally.”
Hailey and Miles went through four egg retrievals. “The doctors guided us through the ups and downs, but it’s still hard to think you’re doing everything right with each cycle and not have it work,” Hailey says.
Out of their four cycles, the couple got two normal embryos from their second attempt and two from their fourth attempt. According to Hailey, “Dr. Silverberg explained that having three to four embryos would be best if we wanted to eventually have a second child.”
Hailey was with Dr. Silverberg for a pre-transfer procedure when she learned that their fourth retrieval resulted in two normal embryos. “Dr. Silverberg was so happy for us, as if we were his family. He celebrated our wins as if they were his own wins,” Hailey recalls.
Finding success after the first embryo transfer
The couple’s first embryo transfer was a success. Hailey describes the pregnancy as “incredible.” Other than morning sickness, she “felt great,” but even the morning sickness was a welcome reminder she was still pregnant.
Giving birth to Beckett was a magical moment for the new parents. They had a beautiful son and were so grateful. According to Hailey, “When you go through IVF, it gives you a different perspective. It makes you appreciate every moment much more. I wouldn’t be the same person without it.”
Almost a year later, the couple got another surprise. They learned Beckett would soon be a big brother. “We got pregnant naturally this time when we weren’t even trying,” Hailey explains. “It’s amazing to have an IVF pregnancy and a natural pregnancy because you can appreciate the beauty of both.”
Offering advice and support for other hopeful parents
When asked what advice they would give to other hopeful parents, the couple stressed the importance of seeking support.
“Reach out and find a support group. Austin has a great IVF Facebook group, and there’s an IVF support group on Reddit. When you reach out, you realize you’re not the only one going through this. You’re not alone, and it’s helpful to know that.”
The other piece of advice the couple offers is to go to Texas Fertility Center. “We would recommend them to anyone. It’s such a warm environment, and everyone feels like family,” Hailey says.
