Patients visit Texas Fertility Center (TFC) for many different reasons. Helen and Kris came to our Round Rock fertility center because they didn’t want to waste any time starting their family. “We got married at 38, so we wanted to jump right into treatment,” Helen explains.

The Georgetown couple’s journey to have babies after age 35 was emotional at times, but it ultimately gave them the gift of “two beautiful babies.”

Starting on the path to parenthood at Texas Fertility Center

Deciding to come to Texas Fertility Center was an easy choice for Helen and Kris. “I looked up highly rated clinics and saw TFC had a Round Rock location, which is close to us since we live in Georgetown,” Helen says.

During their time with us, the couple underwent in vitro fertilization (IVF). Helen also had a laparoscopic procedure to treat endometriosis.

The couple was hopeful when they had their first IVF embryo transfer. However, the pregnancy unfortunately ended in a miscarriage. Although it was heartbreaking, Helen and Kris were not ready to give up.

After taking “a couple of months to regroup,” the couple came back with high hopes for their next embryo transfer.

The couple was right to be hopeful because the next embryo transfer was a success, thanks to a slightly different protocol and Dr. Lisa Hansard.

Helen describes her first pregnancy as “pretty smooth” and “thoroughly enjoyed it,” despite a few hiccups. The result of this first pregnancy was a precious baby boy named William “Liam.”

A few years later, Helen and Kris were ready to grow their family, so they visited Dr. Hansard again. They underwent another embryo transfer that was a success.

Her second pregnancy was more difficult though, and Helen struggled with issues like morning sickness and bleeding. However, monitoring showed her little one was unharmed and developing well.

When the couple welcomed their daughter Rosemary “Rosie” into the world, they realized the journey had been worth it.

Advice for other hopeful parents who are struggling to conceive

The journey to have babies after age 35 left Helen and Kris with knowledge they’re eager to share with other hopeful parents.

First, Helen stresses the importance of seeking and accepting support. “This whole process is a lot to handle, with so many emotional ups and downs. Finding a shoulder (or two) to lean on is important,” Helen says. “Don’t be afraid to ask for advice or help along the way.”

She also believes in the power of “trusting your intuition” and “doing what feels right for you.” For example, she believes it was helpful to focus on herself after her first miscarriage.

According to Helen, “I took some time to work on myself before trying again. I firmly believe that meditation and acupuncture made a world of difference for me. Once I got into that better headspace and my body felt more aligned and ready to conceive, everything fell into place.”

For her final piece of advice, Helen recommends working with Texas Fertility Center. “We love Dr. Hansard’s personality, and the nurses and staff were always very nice,” she explains.

Dr. Hansard’s personality wasn’t all that the couple loved. “We also appreciated her vast knowledge, experience, and how she treated me as a person rather than a number,” Helen says. “When we had our consultation with her and told her our story, she came up with a protocol specific for what she felt would do well with my body, and it worked!” If you want to learn more about having babies after age 35, our Round Rock fertility center is here for you.
