An Austin Tradition Born at St. David’s Hospital in 1986 Continues
Austin, Texas – April 4, 2013 – Texas Fertility Center will hold its annual Baby Reunion on Sunday, April 7 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Dell Jewish Community Center located at 7300 Hart Ln. Austin, TX 78731. This marks the 27th annual celebration for couples that have won the battle against infertility, each year adding an ever-expanding circle of friends and family.
“We are so pleased to offer advanced reproductive technologies to so many couples in Texas and the U.S. struggling with infertility,” said Dr. Thomas Vaughn, the first board certified fertility specialist to bring advanced fertility therapy to Austin and Central Texas. Dr. Vaughn was among the physicians at the first Baby Reunion when the current Austin IVF lab was located at St. David’s Hospital.
The Texas Fertility Center event features an afternoon of bounce houses, family photos and refreshments. The Westerman family is among those attending for the first time: Brian, Rachael and their 10-month-old baby.
“The Baby Reunion gives us the perfect chance to see all the great people at TFC who helped us realize our dream,” says Rachael. “There is absolutely no price that can be put on the gift of a family.”
In conjunction with the Baby Reunion, Texas Fertility Center is launching its Words of Hope Infertility Facebook campaign. The fertility center is asking current and former patients to offer words of hope and encouragement to the infertility community. Statistically, 1 in 7 couples will face infertility, so Texas Fertility Center proactively raises awareness about the emotional, physical and financial costs of the disease.
“I know how emotionally and physically draining it is to try to get pregnant,” says Rachael. “If one more person told me to ‘stop thinking about it and it will happen,’ I thought I would lose my mind! I wanted to think about it … and focus on it … and make it happen.”
The Westerman’s partnered with Austin IVF and Texas Fertility Center reproductive endocrinologist Dr. Kaylen Silverberg, and conceived with the help of in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).
The new mother now happily offers advice to couples currently trying to conceive: “Staying positive was a challenge at times, but staying focused was never an option. Don’t lose sight of your dream … stay focused!”
Targeted infertility treatment at Texas Fertility Center–from basic intrauterine insemination (IUI) to leading edge options such as IVF and ICSI that resulted in a baby for the Westerman family–has led to the births of more than 12,000 babies since the fertility clinic was founded in Austin in 1980.
A pregnant fertility patient is released to her obgyn after the first six weeks, so the Baby Reunion affords the clinic doctors and staff the opportunity to reunite and celebrate with these new moms and dads.
