Decorated, Retired Colonel Leads Fertility Care at TFC-Round Rock

Dual Board Certified Reproductive Endocrinologist and OB GYN and Renowned Researcher, Dr. Anthony Propst Moves to Private Practice

Anthony Propst, MDAustin, Texas – July 9, 2013– After 21 years in the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Anthony (Tony) Propst joins Texas Fertility Center as the lead physician in the Round Rock office.

Dr. Propst joins partners Drs. Thomas C. Vaughn, Kaylen M. Silverberg, Lisa J. Hansard, and Natalie Z. Burger  in pioneering world-class fertility research, and providing effective, compassionate patient care and treatment.

“I was [Chief of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center] in San Antonio when I regularly attended the Texas Fertility Center Southwest Fertility Forum, and met Drs. Vaughn, Silverberg, and Hansard. I became interested in the research, advances and achievements that TFC was making as a group.”

Years of recruiting landed Texas Fertility Center the nationally recognized infertility expert and former Chief Consultant to the USAF Surgeon General for Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Propst brings nearly three decades of experience to the Round Rock fertility center.

“I’m looking forward to meeting and collaborating with the Round Rock and Austin medical community, and serving as a resource in the care of their patients.”

After attending the United States Air Force Academy and the University Of North Carolina School Of Medicine, Dr. Propst completed his internship and residency at David Grant USAF Medical Center, Travis AFB, California, and fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Brigham and Women’s Hospital – Harvard Medical School.

“In medical school, I was drawn to reproductive physiology, and how the brain stimulates the ovaries to create conditions favorable for pregnancy. When I was a resident, I fell in love with Reproductive Endocrinology, and the joy you could bring to couples by correcting problems with fertility to help them conceive.”

An extensive catalog of Dr. Propst’s published research and contributed book chapters emphasizes his commitment to resolving infertility, and extraordinary efforts to collaborate with peers, and lessen the burden of infertility for his patients. Dr. Propst’s key areas of expertise include:

  • Minimally invasive fertility surgery
  • da Vinci Surgical System
  • Endometriosis
  • In-vitro fertilization (IVF)
  • Recurrent pregnancy loss
  • Ovulation disorders
  • Tubal reanastomosis (reversal)

“We live in a great time, with life-changing fertility treatments, and surgical options that physicians didn’t have 30 years ago,” says Dr. Propst.

Texas Fertility Center Reproductive Endocrinologists in Austin, Round Rock and San Antonio offer these life-changing treatment options from five fertility clinic locations, with services ranging from basic intrauterine insemination (IUI), to leading-edge fertility treatments such as preimplantation genetic diagnosis, single embryo transfer, intracytoplasmic sperm injection and fertility preservation.

“Every member of the Texas Fertility Center family commits to a higher standard of patient care, and actively furthering medical research and infertility advocacy,” says TFC Medical Director Dr. Kaylen Silverberg. “Dr. Propst not only complements the TFC way of thinking, he is a model for us as an innovator, healer and leader. We are thrilled to have Tony on our team.”

Achieving the rank of Colonel required Dr. Propst to demonstrate uncompromising qualities of leadership, perseverance and discipline, even while helping individuals and couples overcome infertility. Among his many accolades and honors, Dr. Propst earned the Air Force Achievement Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

Colonel Propst retired from the Air Force in July, 2013. His last assignment was Vice-Chairman and Associate Professor of OB GYN at the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine. He and his wife Wendy and their four children leave Bethesda, MD, for Texas this month, and will reside in the Austin-Round Rock community, as Dr. Propst prepares for civilian life at Texas Fertility Center-Round Rock.

In the words of the Air Force Song: Off we go into the wild blue yonder.
