Millions of women experience a condition known as endometriosis, which causes painful periods and happens when the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus.
Many simply live with the condition without knowing there are treatment options. But what women also don’t realize is that left untreated, it can cause infertility.
An Austin woman shares her story on Time Warner Cable. At just 27, she and her husband thought it would easy to start a family. But after 15 months of trying, they went to a fertility specialist who quickly diagnosed her with severe endometriosis. Her case was so extreme that one of her ovaries was stuck to her uterus because of the scarring the endometriosis had caused.
Because she had the condition for so many years, fertility treatment was necessary for her to become pregnant. She went through IVF (in vitro fertilization) twice and now has two children: a daughter that’s 3 and a son that’s 1.
