It’s time for Infertility Advocacy Day 2014

Next to birthdays, National Infertility Awareness Week in April and Infertility Advocacy Day in May are high on our list of annual events we observe at TFC.  Infertility Advocacy Day 2014 will be May 7 in Washington, D.C. This event continues a dialogue between elected officials and the infertility community, including our doctors.

Dr. Thomas C. Vaughn, Dr. Kaylen Silverberg and Dr. Tony Propst have each testified before Congress in past years.

This year, Dr. Silverberg joins RESOLVE on Capitol Hill

The advocates will lobby the congressional delegation in Washington, D.C.  They will support the Family Act of 2013 to expand fertility coverage. Central Texas now has its own foundation to raise awareness and promote advocacy. Read more about Fertility Foundation of Texas here >>>

We asked the TFC fertility specialists this question:

If you could have three wishes for for Infertility Advocacy Day 2014, what would they be?

Increase awareness. Infertility affects over 7.3 million couples in the U.S. Despite the fact that infertility is one of the few medical diseases that is curable, insurance rarely covers the treatment of infertility. That needs to change.

Provide for a tax credit for the out-of-pocket expenses for IVF, fertility preservation and other treatments. The Family Act would allow for this financial relief. It is currently an active bill in the 113th Congress. Having the financial freedom to pursue more than one IVF cycle would reduce the pressure to transfer multiple embryos.

Share hope for a fertile future. Between 80 and 88% of couples with infertility who see a fertility doctor and stick with the plan will conceive.

Passing the Family Act requires a little effort from a lot of people. Tell your elected officials that you support legislation that will give families options to have their own biological children. Tell them you also support the same lifetime tax couples get for adoption.

Thank you for joining TFC in raising awareness for infertility prevention, treatment and coverage. Contact us if you would like to schedule a consultation.
