Becoming Parents with Help from IVF and ICSI

The beginning of the journey to conceive with IVF and ICSI

The beginning of the journey to conceive with IVF and ICSIReesa and Jeff are the proud parents of two little girls named Andersyn and Nova. However, they once wondered if they would be able to conceive. Thankfully, their fertility journey led them to our Austin fertility center, and they learned about IVF and ICSI.

After trying to conceive for a year, the couple visited a fertility clinic, but they didn’t like the experience there. When they told their friends, several of them recommended that they visit Texas Fertility Center (TFC). According to Reesa, “We decided to get a second opinion at TFC and we’re so glad we did.”

Starting the diagnosis and treatment process at TFC

The beginning of the journey to conceive with IVF and ICSIThe couple scheduled with Natalie Burger MD and they instantly loved her. “There was a lot to take in at the first appointment, but Dr. Burger made it manageable and put us at ease. She’s the perfect combination of comforting and informative,” Reesa says.

After some more testing and laparoscopic surgery, Dr. Burger discovered that Reesa had a thin layer of tissue surrounding her ovaries. After surgically removing it, the couple tried conceiving on their own. When it didn’t work, they came back to our Austin fertility center. “It was discouraging, but we weren’t going to give up,” Reesa says.

Dr. Burger initially tried four cycles of intrauterine insemination (IUI), but the couple still didn’t conceive. At that point, she recommended IVF and ICSI. In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a highly effective treatment on its own, but intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) improves the odds of getting pregnant even more. This procedure involves injecting a single healthy sperm into each egg to achieve fertilization in the laboratory.

Finding fertility success with IVF and ICSI

Nine months after that, they were surprised to learn that they had gotten pregnant naturally with their second daughter Nova. “Our girls are almost exactly 18 months apart and they are already best friends,” Reesa gushes. The couple is also planning to return to our Austin fertility center to have at least one more baby.

Offering advice for other hopeful parents

The TFC team is there for you every step of the way and you can tell how committed they are,” Reesa explains. “We just feel so lucky to have found TFC.”

When asked to provide advice for other hopeful parents, Reesa stressed that it’s important to “trust the timing of your life.” She also wants people to know that fertility treatments involve a lot of science but also a lot of beautiful and exciting moments. “From the daily updates from the Ovation® Fertility lab after the egg retrieval to the embryo transfer procedure, there are so many moments that made our experience so special and unforgettable,” Reesa says.
