IVF After Vasectomy Reversal – One Couple’s Story

IVF After Vasectomy Reversal – One Couple’s Story

Beginning the journey to have a baby with IVF after vasectomy reversal

Beginning the journey to have a baby with IVF after vasectomy reversalMary and Carlton wanted to have a baby, but they were encountering some roadblocks. However, their story has a happy ending, thanks to a recommendation from a dental hygienist and IVF after vasectomy reversal.

When Mary was at a dental appointment, she mentioned that she and her husband were struggling to conceive. That’s when her dental hygienist mentioned that our Austin fertility center had helped her overcome infertility. “She recommended that we give Texas Fertility Center a try,” Mary recalls.

Taking the first step to have a baby with help from IVF after vasectomy reversal

Beginning the journey to have a baby with IVF after vasectomy reversalThe couple scheduled an appointment with Natalie Burger MD at our Austin fertility center. They were nervous at first and overwhelmed by the possible diagnoses, but Dr. Burger put them at ease. “She was so nice from the first moment we met her. Dr. Burger made us feel comfortable and showed us it was possible to have a baby,” Mary says.

After reviewing the couple’s medical backgrounds and test results, Dr. Burger determined that they were struggling to conceive due to male infertility caused by a past vasectomy and unexplained female infertility.

Even though Carlton had already undergone a vasectomy reversal elsewhere, it had been unsuccessful. This is common, which is why our Austin fertility center team often recommends in vitro fertilization (IVF) rather than the vasectomy reversal procedure. It’s also why our team offers IVF after vasectomy reversal for patients who have already had the procedure.

Dr. Burger recommends IVF after vasectomy reversal for the couple

Beginning the journey to have a baby with IVF after vasectomy reversalBased on the couple’s ages (35 and 45) and diagnoses, Dr. Burger recommended that they move forward with IVF with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). When the first IVF cycle was not successful, Dr. Burger suggested that they try another using an endometrial receptivity array (ERA) to determine when Mary’s uterine lining was ready for the embryo transfer. “We were Dr. Burger’s first ERA patients,” Mary recalls.

This test made all the difference because the couple conceived after the IVF cycle with ERA. Nine months following IVF after vasectomy reversal, the couple welcomed a healthy baby boy. Emmitt is now a joyful two-year-old now who loves chocolate and monster trucks. “We love him so much. He’s the result of 383 shots and he’s worth every single one,” Mary gushes.

Sharing advice for other hopeful parents

Beginning the journey to have a baby with IVF after vasectomy reversalThe couple highly recommends our Austin fertility center. “They make you feel at home and help you realize you aren’t alone when you’re going through infertility,” Mary says. “We are very grateful for Dr. Burger. She has a great bedside manner and is so knowledgeable.”

Mary wants women and men to know that infertility can be long and hard, but it’s possible to get through it and have a family. Carlton also adds, “Everyone always says they would do anything for their kids. For us, that included doing everything we could to get our son here. The result is so worth it.”
