Beginning the journey to have a baby with IVF after vasectomy reversal

Mary and Carlton wanted to have a baby, but they were encountering some roadblocks. However, their story has a happy ending, thanks to a recommendation from a dental hygienist and IVF after vasectomy reversal.

The couple scheduled an appointment with Natalie Burger MD at our Austin fertility center. They were nervous at first and overwhelmed by the possible diagnoses, but Dr. Burger put them at ease. “She was so nice from the first moment we met her. Dr. Burger made us feel comfortable and showed us it was possible to have a baby,” Mary says.

After reviewing the couple’s medical backgrounds and test results, Dr. Burger determined that they were struggling to conceive due to male infertility caused by a past vasectomy and unexplained female infertility.

Even though Carlton had already undergone a vasectomy reversal elsewhere, it had been unsuccessful. Dr. Burger recommends IVF after vasectomy reversal for the couple

Based on the couple’s ages (35 and 45) and diagnoses, Dr. Burger recommended that they move forward with IVF with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). When the first IVF cycle was not successful, Dr. Burger suggested that they try another using an endometrial receptivity array (ERA) to determine when Mary’s uterine lining was ready for the embryo transfer. “We were Dr. Burger’s first ERA patients,” Mary recalls.

This test made all the difference because the couple conceived after the IVF cycle with ERA. Nine months following IVF after vasectomy reversal, the couple welcomed a healthy baby boy. Emmitt is now a joyful two-year-old now who loves chocolate and monster trucks. “We love him so much. He’s the result of 383 shots and he’s worth every single one,” Mary gushes.
