Getting Treatment for Undiagnosed Endometriosis and Fibroids

Endometriosis and fibroids almost prevented Lanette and Brian from welcoming a baby

Endometriosis and fibroids almost prevented Lanette and Brian from welcoming a babyLanette and Brian were high school sweethearts. In their youth, they couldn’t have predicted what the future would hold. However, Lanette hoped it would be children because she always knew that she wanted to be a mother. “My greatest fear wasn’t heights or spiders. It was that my dream of having a baby might not come true,” she says. This might have happened if she didn’t come to Texas Fertility Center to receive treatment for endometriosis and fibroids.

For a while, Lanette satisfied her maternal instincts by taking care of the couple’s dogs and working with her students. However, her longing to be a mother eventually returned when her friends started having children. That’s when the couple decided to start trying for a baby.

Running into fertility struggles

Endometriosis and fibroids almost prevented Lanette and Brian from welcoming a babyAfter trying from January to August, Lanette had a nagging fear that something was wrong. Her loving husband tried to reassure her, but she still couldn’t shake the feeling and she made an appointment with her OB/GYN to seek fertility treatment in Waco. At the time, she didn’t know she had endometriosis and fibroids.

According to Lanette, “The experience in Waco was less than ideal. My doctor passed me off to her physician assistant, they ran endless expensive tests and we went through six cycles of Clomid and timed intercourse, but nothing worked.”

At this point, Lanette and Brian felt discouraged, but then they saw a ray of hope. “After all that, they recommended that we see Kaylen Silverberg [MD] at Texas Fertility Center. That was the only good thing to come out of my experience with my OB/GYN,” Lanette recalls.

With this recommendation, the couple stopped the fertility treatments in Waco and made an appointment with Dr. Silverberg.

Discovering and treating endometriosis and fibroids

Endometriosis and fibroids almost prevented Lanette and Brian from welcoming a babyQuestions and fears swirled through Lanette’s head as the couple drove to Austin, but she felt a sense of calm wash over her when they arrived at our Austin fertility center. “The office was immaculate, and the receptionist was kind and considerate,” Lanette says. “Dr. Silverberg’s experience and bedside manner made me feel confident we were in good hands.”

It didn’t take long for Dr. Silverberg to spot issues that the doctors providing the fertility treatments in Waco had overlooked. He saw a septum and two fibroids during Lanette’s evaluation. He performed surgery to correct the issues and he removed some endometriosis he discovered during the procedure. With that, Lanette no longer had endometriosis and fibroids to worry about.

“I was furious we had wasted a year trying to conceive under the care of the other doctors, but I was happy there seemed to be a simple solution,” Lanette recalls.

Finding pregnancy success and happiness

Endometriosis and fibroids almost prevented Lanette and Brian from welcoming a babyDr. Silverberg performed two rounds of intrauterine insemination (IUI) and Lanette and Brian were pregnant after the second one. “I couldn’t believe it when I found out I was pregnant. I was thrilled and nervous all at the same time. We waited until 20 weeks along to tell most people,” she explains.

At 37 weeks, Lanette’s water broke and she was holding a sweet baby boy in her arms about 23 hours later. “I couldn’t believe it was real until I was holding Oliver in my arms in the delivery room,” she says. “We are so grateful to Dr. Silverberg and Texas Fertility Center. We recommend them to everyone. They gave us the greatest gift ever, my beautiful baby boy.”

In addition to recommending our Austin fertility center, Lanette also wants hopeful parents to know they aren’t alone and that it’s important to find support. “It doesn’t matter whether it’s your spouse, a friend or a therapist, you need to find someone to lean on.”
