We always felt comfortable as a lesbian couple, and appreciated the humor, sensitivity, knowledge and understanding that the whole TFC staff extended to us.
Our experience at TFC has been fantastic. It was just over a year ago that we went in to meet with Dr. Burger, who we were introduced to when she spoke as part of a panel on building LGBT families. We went in and told her we weren’t ready to start “trying” yet, but instead wanted to gather all possible information about the status of my fertility before we started “throwing sperm at the problem” so to speak. We based this on other lesbian couples we knew who had tried several very expensive cycles with no results only to find out the woman trying to get pregnant had a small solvable fertility issue.
So, we slowly and methodically went through tests and procedures, including a surgery to remove a fallopian tube blockage. Throughout the process Dr. Burger answered all of our questions, helped us make the best decision based on our life events, insurance, statistics and emotions. When we got to the stage where we started our IUI cycles, she continued to be understanding, full of good advice, but ultimately left the decision of when/whether to add medication up to us. While Dr. Burger never got to inseminate due to my ovulation consistently happening on the weekends, (Drs. Hansard and Vaughn were also fabulous!) she did not hesitate to celebrate with us at our 8 week ultrasound!
We always felt comfortable as a lesbian couple, and appreciated the humor, sensitivity, knowledge and understanding that the whole TFC staff extended to us. We will certainly be bringing our baby in to visit when s/he arrives in September!
