Jack and Ryan’s Story

Having a baby at 42 and 45 through IVF is a pretty difficult process emotionally, physically and financially.

Jack and Ryan

Where has the time gone? It seems like yesterday I was at my first consultation with Dr. Silverberg. I can never thank him and the staff at TFC enough for my precious boys, Jack (5) and Ryan (3).

The journey was at times hard, but the support from Dr. Silverberg and his staff was incredible. I think of you always when I am watching my boys play, sleep, etc.  Every day, I thank God for them to help us build our family.

Having a baby at 42 and 45 through IVF is a pretty difficult process emotionally, physically and financially. Fortunately, in 2005, my husband and I were referred to seek infertility treatment with Dr. Silverberg at TFC after trying to achieve pregnancy with the use of Clomid unsuccessfully.

Our initial meeting with Dr. Silverberg and the TFC office could not have been more informative, calming, friendly, or helpful, and each time after that, they were glad to see us and showed genuine interest, care, compassion, and warmth in our lives and difficulties. Dr. Silverberg took his time with us each visit, and explained everything thoroughly in a step-by-step way.  The nurses were knowledgeable and approachable and always took my phone calls, no matter how silly my problem was.  Every time I became discouraged, Dr. Silverberg’s confidence and encouragement pushed me to not give up.

We began our two year journey with surgery; followed by three attempts with IUI’s.  In January 2007, Dr. Silverberg recommended we try IVF. Back in those days, you used progesterone injections, and after a couple of days, I could barely walk or even sleep from the pain at the injection site.  Since we had to use a different injection site each night, my entire buttocks were severely sore.

I remember too vividly waking up at 2:00 am many mornings, lying on the couch with ice on my injection sites, crying from the pain.  It was hard for me to get up once I had been sitting and I could not sleep on my back.  I just kept praying that the pain would be worth it – and it was – I tested positive and we conceived my amazing miracle, my beautiful son, Jack.

A year later, we went back to Dr. Silverberg to attempt to have another baby.  Another surgery followed and then we again tried IVF. Science had advanced, and Dr. Silverberg was happy to inform me I was a candidate for a new vaginal progesterone gel, and a year later my little “spark-plug”, Ryan, was born.

Like us, anyone who has come out the other side of infertility gains a sense of their strength, endurance and resolve. But you have to have the right doctors and their support staff.  Texas Fertility Center is that place, going above and beyond their call of duty.
